Delamere Forest near Chester, Cheshire

Enjoy a fun day out from Wharton Lock Apartment in Delamere Forest Park. It comprises over 950 hectares of mixed deciduous and evergreen forest, open grassland and wetlands. It is the largest wooded area in Cheshire and lies within the Mersey Forest.

This is an ancient forest which was used in the past as a hunting ground for the Earls of Chester and as far back as the Norman times as the hunting forest of Mara and Mondrum.

Nowadays it is managed by the Forestry Commission, there are marked walks passing the attractive meres of Hatchmere and Oakmere together with picnic areas at Linmere, Hatchmere and Barns Bridge Gates.

The new attraction in 2006 was the Go Ape forest adventure course. Positioned adjacent to Linmere Bridge with magnificent views of Blakemere Lake, the course boasts the longest zip slide of any Go Ape adventure, some 200 metres long - three hours of fun for 10 year olds and over.

Why not explore the forest on a mountain bike; bike hire is available from Wirral Tracs.
