Chester Boat Races on the River Dee

Just a short walk from Wharton Lock holiday apartment you will come to The Mount Pub and a short walk down from there you will find the banks of the River Dee in Chester. In the Summer a small ferry runs across to the other bank offering you the chance to walk in The Meadows and enjoy a picnic or watch the boat races on the River.

Regatta on the River Dee, Chester

Chester Annual Regatta

Chester hosts the oldest regatta in the UK, the first one being held in 1733, this continues to be an annual event on the River Dee in Chester.

The race can be seen between the Red House public house and the Earls Eye, overlooked by The Mount public house, using a course with plenty of visibility from the new regatta site at Sandy Lane.

Raft Race on the River Dee, Chester

Chester Raft Race

The Raft Race, organised by the Rotary Club, is held on the River Dee on the first available Sunday of July each year when there is a suitable tide.

This is definitely a FUN day with competitors required to build their own rafts which should be manually propelled - competitors are allowed to gain an unfair advantage by throwing substances at each other, although these must not be noxious or injurious to other users or wildlife, the river or its banks.

A fun day held on the River Dee in the centre of Chester.
