Chester Cathedral, Gardens and Parks, Cheshire
Enjoy your stay in Chester at Wharton Lock apartment by taking a walk around the Chester Cathedral and gardens, on the way back to the holiday apartment take a stroll through the beautiful Grosvenor Park Gardens in the centre of Chester.
The red sandstone cathedral, which dates from 14th Century, was originally a Benedictine Abbey. Following the dissolution in 1540 it became the cathedral for the new Diocese of Chester.
Recently the cathedral was host to the wedding of Lady Tamara Grosvenor, daughter of the Duke of Westminster, and Edward van Cutsem, the Prince of Wales’ godson. The wedding was attended by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Princes William and Harry acted as ushers.
There are many beautiful gardens and parks in the area but Grosvenor Park is one of the finest Victorian parks in England. It officially opening in 1867 and retains much of the original design. The gardens contain many medieval buildings and ruins in addition to beautiful flower borders and lawns.
Take time to walk around the gardens, see the minature steam railway and walk through to the Groves, or promenade, that runs along the banks of the River Dee, cross the iron bridge and walk to the meadows beyond - a perfect English day.
