Roman City Walls of Chester

During your stay at Wharton Court why not visit the ancient city walls in The City of Chester. These are the most preserved Roman ramparts or walls of any city in Britain, with much of the original walls remaining. There is a two mile walk to enjoy around the sandstone walls past the many towers and gates which were added in the middle ages.

One such tower, now called King Charles Tower, is where King Charles I watched his forces defeated at the Battle of Rowton.
