Access Statement for Chester Canalside Holidays

Introduction

Wharton Lock Self Catering Apartment, in The City of Chester and its website www.stayinchester.com.

We offer holidays to a wide range of guests and are pleased to include some disabled guests among our many “repeat” guests.

As a person with disabilities myself, I appreciate how small changes and another person’s understanding can make a difference to all the family's enjoyment of special times, like holidays away.

Pre-Arrival

  • Contact can be made via email, fax or text (mobile phone) - for guests who have difficulty in speaking or hearing clearly.
  • The website facilitates use by visitors with disabilities - Clear and easy to follow
    • Font enlargement available
    • Can be printed with minimal design in high contrast colour
    • Gives details of different methods of transport to the apartment
    • Google Map and descriptions of the exact location
  • Wharton Lock Apartment and its booking procedure have accessible features for visitors with disabilities
  • Access statement available by email, post and on website.   Available in large print if necessary.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • A map is sent to the guests before arrival showing location of apartment and the parking space.
  • There is one designated car parking space which is 30 metres from the entrance door
  • There is a Visitors Space available on request.
  • Drop-off point for guests immediately outside the entrance.
  • The surface is flat and even, the car park surface is tarmac with paving to the entrance door.
  • There is one step up to the kerb.
  • There is a barrier at the entrance to the car park.
  • The car park is well lit.

Main Entrance and Reception

  • There is one small step into the entrance.
  • There is one straight flight of even stairs with handrail.In the case of guests with disabilities we can provide a personal check in (rather than the “keysafe” system).
  • For guests with mobility problems, the representative of Chester Canalside Holidays can provide a chair at the bottom and top of the stairs.
  • The entrance and stairway are well lit at all times.

Apartment - General (Internal)

  • All air fresheners, flowers and potpourri can be removed on request for asthma, allergy suffers or those guests who suffer sensitivity to these products.
  • We can also restrict the use of certain types of cleaning products, on request.
  • The walls are white and the doors are brown giving a high level of contrast for people who have sight difficulties.
  • Once inside the first floor apartment all rooms are on one level.
  • The apartment has a clear fire procedure and fire alarm fitted.
  • There is a fire blanket and a fire extinguisher.
  • The lounge has a TV with teletext, an induction loop and remote control.
  • Cleaners will be advised not to move personal possessions when the guests have a sight disability.
  • The balcony is accessed by one step.
  • The balcony has table and chairs.
  • The apartment is fully carpeted, excluding kitchen and bathrooms.
  • The apartment is well insulated with the heating and hot water supply controlled by the guests  - for the comfort of people with circulation problems, cancer sufferers and those affected by the cold. 

Bedrooms

Master bedroom

  • There is TV with facility for subtitles and remote control.
  • The bedroom floor is carpeted.
  • The master bedroom has a king size divan bed.
  • The mattress is orthopaedic.
  • There are non-allergenic pillows and duvets.
  • The bedroom has dimmer lights and standard lights.

Twin bedroom

  • The bedroom floor is carpeted.
  • The twin room has two single divan beds.
  • The mattresses are orthopaedic.
  • There are non-allergenic pillows and duvets.
  • We can provide an inflatable mattress, on request.

For example: This is used by one of our regular guests, a handicapped child, who is at risk of falling out of a normal height bed.

Family Bathroom and En-suite

  • En-suite bathroom has a large walk in shower (one step).
  • Family bathroom is accessed from central hallway of apartment.
  • Family bathroom has a bath with a shower over it.
  • The floors are non slip laminate.
  • There are additional non-slip bath/shower mats in each room.
  • There are thermostatic mixer taps.
  • The en-suite shower tap is twist/turn.
  • The family bathroom bath/shower mixer is lever.

Self-Catering Kitchen

  • The kitchen is to the side of the lounge.
  • The tap is lever controlled.
  • There is a hob, oven and microwave.
  • The floor is non slip laminate.
  • There is both standard and dimmer lights in the kitchen.
  • The fridge is at eye level
